定義為，即在固定壓力下，物質的熱焓(enthalpy)對溫度的變化率，可用圖表示。
於理想氣體中，cp為溫度的函數。
又可表示成cp=kR/(k-1)；
式中，k為氣體的比熱比(cp/cv)；
cv為定容比熱；
cv=R/(k-1)；
而R為該物質之氣體常數。
而對於惰定氣體，cp=5R/2，cv=3R/2是為固定值。
